January 2023 Newsletter

This newsletter provides an update on recent and planned activities through The Food WorksSW. Please pass onto colleagues and, if there are any particular topics or information you would like included in future updates, please let the centre team know.

Latest News at The FoodWorksSW


Activity and awareness of our facilities has continued to grow over the last year and it's been great to watch our network of businesses develop.

Our two funded projects, FESS and CRF have both been running consecutively have now officially closed. We have helped over 100 businesses with these projects and you can read about some of the highlights here

The development kitchens have seen a great variety in purpose of use these last few months including menu launches, chef training, product development and scale up. Click here to read about some of the businesses we've worked with recently. 
We're Hiring!

The FoodWorksSW is looking for a friendly, quick-thinking, confident person to join the team.
 
Role: Business Support Administrator
Location: Weston-super-Mare
Term: Full Time
Start Date: February 2023
Duration: Permanent
Salary Range: £21,000 to £23,000 per annum pro rata depending on experience
Holliday Allowance: 25 Days + 8 Bank Holidays pro rata

Using Sustainability to Strengthen and Grow Your Food and Drink Business

This fast-paced will provide you with the tools needed to embrace sustainability and mitigate current challenges.

The event will be delivered by experts from Maia Growth with significant experience in food manufacturing processes and business management.

Our Senior Technical & Site Manager, Rachel, will be holding a Food Labelling and Allergens Workshop at this event at 12.15, so do pop along if you can!

It's heating up in the kitchens...

"I did a trial in one of FoodWork's kitchens - I loved the superfast state-of-the-art-oven - and got help with technical things like nutritional data and labels."
We have 5 development kitchens on site. Each is designed so that, whatever your business requires, we can provide you with all of the facilities that you need.

We've recently had the pleasure of having Fiona from Sunbird Kitchen using our Trial Kitchen. Her products are refined-sugar, dairy and gluten free, making them suitable for special dietary requirements.


 
Another regular user of our drinks kitchen is Bruce, who creates his beautifully smoked chilli sauce range, Hoots Sauce. 

Using our Rationale iVario Pro and collection of thermomix's, Bruce creates up to 500 bottles of his super smooth sauce in just one day! 

Over the last 18 months of Hoots being crafted in our kitchens, we have gotten very familiar with this fiery Scottish scent filling the corridors!

The FoodWorks Welcomes Two New Tenants!
We are delighted to welcome two new businesses to our site here at FoodWorks!

Mochi Bros is a plant-based dessert company specialising in gelato-filled mochi sandwiches. Featuring flavours from the Middle-East, these deliciously soft treats only use a handful of 100% completely natural ingredients.

Hocus is a drink manufacturer that features many different spirits all from one bottle!

The company have managed to seperate spirits into two parts, creating a mixer base that can be combined with any of their essences.

Price Changes 2023

Unfortunately, due to rising energy costs, we have had to make the decision to increase our prices for our kitchens and meeting rooms. These changes will be in place as of February 2023.

On-Site Coffee Shop Now Offering Food

You can now enjoy light bites in our business lounge. The café is now offering sandwiches, cakes and hot/cold drinks. 

From our bottled water to our cakes, everything we sell is locally sourced!
Come and pick up a £5.50 meal deal Monday - Friday 9-5pm. The lounge is only open for business users, providing a calm and professional environment.
