January 2024 Newsletter Latest News Happy 2024! We hope the new year has started well for you and you have lots of exciting plans for the year ahead. We have also been busy planning - with a series of events launched already for February and March which you can see below. There are more to come! It’s been a busy start to the year in the business lounge and café which is great so a big thank you to those who have been spreading the word about this facility of ours. Our Discovery Day is free to attend and is designed to give businesses and individuals an insight into the facilities and expertise at our state-of-the-art food and drink innovation centre. Hear from industry experts including Jasper Prickett, Development Chef of Butcombe Brewing Co. Ellie Brown, Founder of Kinda Co. Alli Briaris, founder of Drinks Kitchen Ltd Greg Parsons, owner of Sharpham Cheese and Chair of Food Drink Devon Gabriel David, Managing Director of Royal Warrant drinks brand Luscombe Drinks You'll get a taste of our reputation for product development, innovation and discovery, and find out how our development kitchens for bakery, dairy and drinks products and fully-equipped trial kitchen can help businesses of any size scale up production, introduce new lines, produce short runs and pilot improvements. In addition, our in-house technical team will be demonstrating equipment and on hand to explain the expert advice and hands-on technical support on offer at the centre. Specialist sessions will run throughout the day with an optional 1-1 session and tour of our meeting rooms, conference facilities and commercial and trial kitchens after each session. With the regions best food and drink producers as well as other service providers, the show provides the perfect mix of passionate producers, alongside the hottest hospitality and catering companies, and the freshest food service - a well reputed trade show and not one to miss! Register for your free place here Technical Support In addition to supporting clients with Food Label Compliance checks, HACCP plans and Food Safety queries, the Technical Team at FWSW have been busy providing internal audit support to clients including Field Doctor, Mochi Bros, The TEFF Cookie Co, Somerset Charcuterie and Miles Tea in preparation for their annual SALSA audits. FWSW has also been involved in a SALSA audit as Stoked Food have been the first business to use a kitchen on site as the manufacturing base for their audit. The kitchens at FWSW are food grade and EHO approved, providing an ideal location to scale up the manufacture of your products without the hassle and worry of keeping your kitchen in line with requirements. Thank you to those that have completed this survey which is key to the planning for Food Works phase 2. If you’ve been thinking of new premises or starting to look at next steps for your business, then your help would be appreciated if you could spare a few minutes to complete a short survey to understand the demand and requirements for food-grade units as part of the potential for Phase 2 at Food WorksSW here in Weston-super-Mare. We’re working with North Somerset Council and their consultants KGen Ltd, who are carrying out feasibility work to understand the scope of the next phase for the Food and Drink Centre. The survey will close on Tuesday 31st Jan, it only takes 5 minutes to complete so if you are a food/drink producer and have the time, please click below to complete the survey. Complete the survey Mid Devon Prosperity Programme. Food and Drink producers in the Mid Devon area may be eligible for funding through Mid Devon Council’s Shared Prosperity Fund and Rural England Prosperity Fund with opportunities available through the following themes: Field to Fork Grants towards equipment needed to support businesses develop, produce and market local food and drink products and its direct supply to consumers. Business Growth and Innovation A grants programme for micro and small businesses and social enterprises to help buy new equipment, improve processes, buy in specialist support to move towards ‘transformational’ change within their business, increase jobs and support de-carbonisation. The team at Food WorksSW can help with advice on equipment and support to facilitate innovation, research and development to improve production processes, product development and diversification including adding value to products as part of an application.
